handmade gift from uzbekistan

Something special arrived in the mail yesterday, something I had been expecting.

In late November I won my first giveaway. It was my blog friend Igor of Happy Interior Blog that was giving away this colourful hand-embroidered lumbar vintage suzani cushion cover from the Ikatsuzani shop on Etsy. The shop is based in the city of Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in Central Asia.

I fell for the colours and patterns instantly. I have nothing like this in my home and I doubt that anything like this is available in shops nearby. The cushion was larger than I thought it would be so I just need to find a cushion pad that fits. I'm going to keep it in the TV room, as the sofa in there has a light neutral colour. I may look for two turquoise coloured cushions to go with it. I told Igor that maybe this means that I will start watching TV again!

I have to add that I loved the package itself. As you can see, the cushion cover was wrapped in brown paper, tied with string and sealed. It doesn't happen often that one gets a package like that in the mail. It took some time to reach Luxembourg but it was worth the wait.

Thank you Ikatsuzani shop and Igor!

In my yesterday's post I was dreaming of spring and I found that dream a little crushed when I woke up this morning. There was snow on the ground. I guess I will have to wait a little longer for spring-like days.

Have a wonderful weekend dear readers and blog friends!

  6. Lisa, this is a wonderful giveaway, lucky you! I have a big passion for suzani, which I discovered thanks to a small shop in Brussels (I forgot the name, but if you ever come to Brussels, it's just behind Place du Grand Sablon). I'll certainly pay a visit to the Ikatsuzani shop on Etsy, thanks for flagging it!
